Setup Instructions

General Instruction

To configure the GlobalProtect VPN client:

  • Determine the type of your operating system
  • Go to the resource https://vpn.nu.edu.kz, log in under the domain account *, select and download the vpn client for Windows or Mac. **
  • Install the GlobalProtect VPN client
  • Start and connect to the portal with the address vpn.nu.edu.kz, enter the data of your domain account. *
  • After correctly configuring and connecting the VPN client to the portal vpn.nu.edu.kz, you will be granted access to the internal resources of Nazarbayev University according to the application. ***

* If you do not have a domain account, (a freelancer, a remote technical support staff, etc.), the account is issued according to the application in IT HelpDesk.

** For downloading and configuring the client for Linux, Chrome OS - the instruction is presented below.

*** Ticket for access to the internal resources of Nazarbayev University through VPN is sent to the e-mail address helpdesk@nu.edu.kz or by phone 6200.

Instructions for Windows

- Determine the type of your system (64bit or 32bit)

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon..
  2. Select Properties
  3. Determine the type of your system (64bit or 32bit)

- Download VPN Client GlobalProtect

  1. Go to the site https://vpn.nu.edu.kz
  2. Enter your domain account, enter the password and press LOG IN.

If you do not have a domain account, (a freelancer, a remote technical support staff, etc.), the account is issued according to the application in IT HelpDesk.

  1. Select GlobalProtect agent from the list according to the type of your system.
  2. Download the installation file.

- Install the VPN Client GlobalProtect agent

  1. Run the downloaded installation file and press NEXT
  2. Read the installation location of the program, or select another directory and press NEXT
  3. Wait for installation
  4. When finished, click close

- Configure the GlobalProtect VPN Client.

  1. Run the installed program GlobalProtect
  2. In the query field, enter the address of the portal vpn.nu.edu.kz and click Connect

3.To enter the portal, enter your domain account and password, press SIGN IN.

If you do not have a domain account, (a freelancer, a remote technical support staff, etc.), the account is issued according to the application in IT HelpDesk.

5.To disconnect the client, click the settings button and click Disable

 Troubleshooting

  • If you use the Internet NU - then the connection to the portal vpn.nu.edu.kz is not possible. To connect testing on the campus NU, you must use another Internet (for example 3G, 4G).
  • If you can not log in at https://vpn.nu.edu.kz - make sure that the account and password are correct.
  • Failures, frequent client outages, slow access to the University's internal resources - make sure your Internet is stable and has a sufficient data transfer rate..
  • To check the settings after connecting to the portal vpn.nu.edu.kz you can use:
  1. The ping command to the internal servers of the DNS 10.1.1.50 and 10.1.1.51.
  2. The route print command with the output of information about the assigned routes.
  3. Status of connecting the client with the portal in the client's settings.
